San Marino
This area was inhabited since Etruscan times, as evidenced by the salvage materials used in some ancient local buildings and from Mount Melonta. The settlement of Settano certainly developed in Roman times; the suffix -anum of the name, in fact, is typical of the places of Roman colonization. The village developed only in recent times, since the early 19th century, due to the progressive decline of Palazzo Bovarino. The community of this village dispersed between Ospedaletto and San Marino, crushed by debts contracted to pay communication fees. In 1824 the only inhabitant of the castle of Palazzo Bovarino, the ancient residence of the Bovarini or Bovaccini, was the curate. In addition to the village of San Marino, the villages of Casalicchia, Cettina and Settano are worth mentioning, immersed in an uncontaminated environment.
